Our History

Killian Construction is a third-generation family-owned company. After nearly 75 years of operation, we’ve grown into a successful commercial general contractor.

In 1948, J.P. Killian used his experience as a hands-on carpenter and founded Killian Construction with his son, Bob. They began building residential housing developments across Southwest Missouri.

In 1959, Bob and his wife, Betty, purchased Killian Construction from J.P. and successfully built over 1,500 homes in the Springfield area.

In 1970, Killian Construction crossed three generations. Bob’s son (J.P.’s grandson), Bill Killian, officially joined the company after growing up around construction sites.

In 1993, Bill bought the company from his family, becoming President and CEO. Under Bill’s vision, Killian Construction explored new technology and expanded its capabilities to complete more complex projects outside of the Midwest region.

In 2011, Robert Low, the founder of Prime Inc., became a partner. He helped the company grow from a successful, self-performing enterprise to a construction firm with a national presence.

Today, Killian Construction employs nearly 100 associates, partners with more than 15,000 Subcontractors, and has completed projects in 28 states. We’ve received numerous accolades, including 20 Excellence in Construction Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Killian Construction has previously been recognized as an Engineering News-Record (ENR) Top 400 firm nationwide, as well as an ENR Top 25 hotel builder nationwide.
